While 2020 was an extremely difficult year for the hospitality industry in general,
the onset of 2021 brings with it new hope. Yes, the new year holds new challenges
that need to be confronted but I am optimistic that the inherent spirit of hospitality
will prevail.
As an industry, the hospitality industry is extremely resilient and has always
bounced back from the brink of every crisis. That gives us hope for the future and I
am confident that, no matter what the odds are, the industry is all set to bounce back
sooner than later. Among others, the fact that people are already stepping out and
travelling again is a most positive sign as hotels and restaurants open their doors to
welcome guests back.
While there is great focus on safety and hygiene today it is important not to forget
the human element. It is, after all, the people behind those masks and their indomita-
ble spirit that give the hospitality industry its biggest strength.
