INDECO HOTELS SWAMIMALAI
KUMBAKONAM, TAMIL NADU
Indeco Hotels Swamimalai is a heritage hotel in
Swamimalai, a small quaint village in Tamil Nadu
known for its cultural heritage and traditional
craftsmanship such as bronze casting. It is a 125-year-
old heritage property housed in a restored 18th-century
mansion known as the Mint Palace in the 1700s.
Though the beautiful building was razed to the
ground in 2010 it was restored brick by brick by the
owner of Indeco Hotels Swamimalai.
The hotel is located in the region known as the “Rice
Bowl of Tamil Nadu” due to its vast paddy fields.
During the monsoon, these fields are at their peak
beauty, with the lush green crops swaying in the wind.
The sight of endless paddy fields adorned with
rainwater is captivating and provides an authentic
rural experience.
Indeco Hotels Swamimalai offers various facilities
such as a multi-cuisine restaurant serving traditional
south Indian delicacies, a spa offering Ayurvedic
treatments, a swimming pool and a cultural centre
showcasing local art and crafts. The hotel organises
cultural programs and workshops where guests can
witness bronze-casting demonstrations, interact with
artisans and learn about the region’s artistic heritage.
Swamimalai is also known for its proximity to the
Brihadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur, a UNESCO
World Heritage Site and other site seeing places such as
the Tanjore Palace and Art Gallery.
